David Bowie Honored at Brit Awards
February 23, 2017

The late, great David Bowie won two of the top prizes at Wednesday's Brit Awards. Bowie's final record Blackstar was named Best British Album and he also won for Best British Male Artist. His son Duncan Jones picked up the award for Blackstar and gave a speech dedicating it to "all the kooks and all the people who make the kooks." Actor Michael C. Hall, who starred in the musical Lazarus, was on hand to collect the Best British Male Artist award.

The 1975

The 1975 won their first-ever Brit Award as Best British Group while Emeli Sandé was named Best British Female Artist. Rag'n'Bone Man won for both Critics' Choice and British Breakthrough. Winners who were not on hand for the awards show included Adele, Drake, Beyoncé and A Tribe Called Quest.

Katy Perry's performance of her new single "Chained to the Rhythm" made immediate headlines as a political statement. The Pop star was flanked by two giant skeleton marionettes, one dressed as Donald Trump and the other as the UK's own Prime Minister Theresa May.

Chris Martin honored George Michael with a cover of the late artist's "A Different Corner" while Michael's former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley made a rare appearance to speak about him as well. Martin pulled double-duty during the Brits as Coldplay teamed with The Chainsmokers for the first-ever performance of their new single "Something Just Like This," which was released only hours earlier.
